The Department’s courses in both human and physical geography have been rated as outstanding in recent National Student Surveys. The teaching on our degree programmes was judged ‘excellent' in the most recent independent review by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), the body responsible for evaluating all University courses in the UK. The report commended the high academic standards and the quality of learning provision in all the Department's programmes

The QAA report found that

• 'the educational experience of geography students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Royal Holloway is excellent'
• 'standards are maintained at a high level, while programmes continue to develop thanks to high quality systems'.
• 'the excellent quality of student work…reflected the research-led ethos of the Department'

The report also commended many other features of teaching and student support in the Department, including 'excellent staff-student relations', a 'well-embedded tutoring system', a 'highly supportive learning environment' and our ‘coherent and distinctive curricula'.
